"THERE WAS NOWHERE TO GO BUT EVERYWHERE" - JACK KEROUAC
It’s really happening! Tim and I are both in San Diego and we will head into Mexico tomorrow at first light. We’ve both been grappling with a multitude of emotions but as zero hour approaches an assured anticipating grows.
Last night we had a fortuitous meeting with a local San Diego surfer who we bought a surfboard from. We told him about our plans and he couldn’t contain his excitement. He broke out maps and photos and gave us his review of virtually every surf break in northern Baja. Buoyed by his enthusiasm and armed with our new knowledge we feel ready for our foray into the wild unknown of Baja Mexico. The last week has honestly felt like a lifetime. It started with a solemn departure from snow bound Denver, where I left the comfort of a known past and the glimpse of a welcome future for the limitless unknown. Driving half-way across the country alone I felt uncertain, inconsequential and at times very lost. But flying home for Christmas and spending it with family helped to anchor my sense of self. And knowing where I’m from has embolden me as to where I can go. Whatever tomorrow holds, I’m ready. Matt We wanted to give a shout out to Mike and Drew at Larimer St. Garage for doing some last minute modifications to the vans. They both have Toyota Previas like Tim, so they were pretty stoked to help out, especially when they heard about our trip. They definitely went above and beyond to make sure we were ready for South America.
For any of our Denver friends, if you have an import and need work done we highly recommend Larimer St. Garage. The shop is located in the parking lot next to Our Mutual Friend Brewing Company. The adventure begins in a few days! Tim is heading off to Phoenix to finish his van build out and I'm putting a bow on the last of my to do's in Denver before heading to San Diego for a few days of surfing. Then its off to Baja Mexico!
